1. Typical Schematic for a Scanscale System

Scanscale Workstation is the hardware and software identifying, measuring, labeling, and sorting your packages in real time communication with your remote order processing system (if you use one). You can use a subset of its features, or add additional capacity at any time.

2. Managing Sort Devices

Add, edit, or remove sortation devices with this easy to use form. Then drag and drop one or more sort rules to the device for determining a set of yes/no conditions determining when a package is sorted.

You can also select if this particular sort device handles general reject packages for which measurements could not be obtained.

3. Managing Sort Rules

Create rules defining under what conditions a package is to be sorted. Select a rule type from the drop down list, which will then show instructions along with the appropriate fields and drop down boxes.

Examples of rules include package weight within spec either from a value obtained from your database for that package or else one you have entered in the rule, sort by text match (such as a zip code, country, or special code), check for dimensions within spec, and many more.

Once created the rules appear in the list of available rules when editing a sort device. Simply drag and drop the rule to the list of rules which apply for that sort device.

Demo

When you first install Scanscale onto your computer, it is setup in simulation mode and includes a package simulation file along with definitions for 5 sortation devices.

The simulated packages will be sorted into chutes for USPS, UPS, Fed-Ex, DHL Shipping Providers, and a chute for rejected packages.

Measurements mode

4. Measurements Mode

Measurements Mode shows an accurate graphical representation of packages as they move through your conveyor belt, including small points of light when photo eyes are fired, and bars lit up for each type of device that is currently measuring a package.

This form also displays a summary of your most recent package information, as well as statistics, the belt speed, and large buttons to stop and start the belt.

5. Simulation mode

a. Settings

When running in simulation mode, packages are simulated as arriving unto the belt and go through each type of simulated device which you have enabled in your configuration file, just as if it was a real package. Results are logged in data and activity logs, and you can simulate faults as well.

The graphical display on the measurements form also shows the packages moving across your conveyor belt.

By checking a box next to each type of device in the simulation setup screen, you can use a real device and simulate all the other devices, thus isolating the device for troubleshooting or testing purposes.

6. Simulation Mode

b. Generating Package Simulation Files

You can feed in simulated packages from your remote order processing system, and return results to test the interface.

An option is included (in the setup form) to interface with an SeCommerce database to do just that, although of course we will wire it up for your specific database and needs. In this demo, orders as they are made on a live web site, automatically create a package manifest, which is then pulled by the Scanscale program from the remote database every 30 seconds and simulated as moving across the belts, with results returned back to the remote database.
